What is Aqiqah Qurbani?

What is Aqiqah Qurbani?
The Most Beautiful Expression of Gratitude for the Blessing of a Child

Welcoming a new child is one of the most unique joys and greatest blessings a family can experience. To add a spiritual dimension to this happiness and fulfill the duty of gratitude to the Creator, the sacrifice offered is called Aqiqah Qurbani.

Aqiqah is not just an act of Qurbani; it is the first spiritual investment in the life of a newborn. This Sunnah, personally practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for his grandchildren and recommended to the Ummah, is a cherished tradition passed down through generations.

Importance and Wisdom of Performing Aqiqah Qurbani

Islamic scholars describe Aqiqah Qurbani as a spiritual ransom to protect the child from calamities and misfortunes. While fulfilling the family’s duty of gratitude, it also contributes to social solidarity.

Spiritual and social benefits of Aqiqah Qurbani include:

  • Reviving the Sunnah: Performing a Sunnah that may be forgotten, earning spiritual reward.
  • Spiritual Protection: A tangible prayer for the child’s health, safety, and protection from future harm.
  • Inviting Blessings: Sharing the meat with those in need and with friends brings blessings to the household and peace to hearts.

Although it is most recommended to perform Aqiqah on the seventh day after the child’s birth, it can be offered at any time up to adolescence. It should be remembered that this Qurbani is a charity for your child and a sincere expression of gratitude to your Lord.
